Protecting the Future
with Cartoveneta
At Cartoveneta APCI Srl, we implement production processes designed to minimize environmental impact and actively contribute to natural resource conservation.
Our internal water treatment system ensures that ink-washing water undergoes a chemical-physical-biological purification process, allowing for the reintroduction of purified water and the recovery of processing sludge, significantly reducing waste generation.
Additionally, our facility is equipped with a 200 kW photovoltaic system, which powers part of our production lines, reducing our overall carbon footprint. We exclusively use low-impact raw materials, and all production residues are fully recycled—for instance, cardboard scraps are compressed into bales and reintegrated into the paper production cycle.
The Ecological Life Cycle of Cardboard
Corrugated cardboard is derived from renewable resources and is 100% biodegradable and recyclable. In Italy, common cardboard consists of 80% recycled fibers and 20% virgin fibers, sourced from responsibly managed coniferous and broadleaf forests. Sustainable forest management promotes woodland expansion, helping to mitigate greenhouse gas effects.
Boreal forests, managed according to sustainability criteria, grow at a rate of 1.3 billion cubic meters per year, while only 600 million cubic meters are harvested—ensuring a growth rate 50% higher than deforestation levels.
For a Greener Future
Recycling corrugated cardboard offers both economic benefits and reduces landfill waste. It is considered the preferred packaging material under modern regulations because it is fully biodegradable, non-toxic when incinerated and reusable through multiple recycling cycles.
Technical information in this section is partially sourced from the monograph “Corrugated Cardboard: A Choice for Economic and Environmental Sustainability”, published by Assocarta (the Italian association of paper, cardboard, and pulp producers).
